In a major move to accelerate agricultural mechanization and guarantee food security, Niger Foods has partnered with the Federal Government of Nigeria to launch a comprehensive nationwide training program for 4,000 tractor operators and mechanics.
The initiative is led by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. It addresses Nigeria’s critical agricultural machinery deficit by equipping young Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones with modern farming skills.
Niger Foods is driving the practical execution of this initiative by providing the critical hardware, mechanical infrastructure, and Niger Foods and Agcoms international are providing technical expertise and mechanics. The company has deployed a fleet of modern tractors and implements to ensure trainees get hands-on, industry-standard experience.
For Niger Foods the physical rollout began at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna, Niger State, where an initial batch of over 300 operators started intensive technical training. Following their certification, these operators and high-tech tractors were deployed to agricultural service hubs across all 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Niger State, giving local smallholder farmers immediate access to affordable mechanized services.
“This current partnership with Federal Government represents a structural shift from subsistence to commercial farming,” said a spokesperson for Niger Foods. “By combining the Federal Government’s capacity-building vision with our technical support and machinery fleet, we are creating a sustainable maintenance culture that protects multi-billion Naira agricultural investments while rapidly scaling up food production.”
Nigeria currently operates with a massive tractor deficit. This strategic alliance directly bridges that gap, building a skilled local workforce to operate modern machinery, reduce manual farm labour, and lower production costs for farmers nationwide.
