On the margins of the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 in Kigali, Niger Foods participated in two important conversations shaping the future of agricultural investment in Africa.

One focused on connecting scientific innovation to development finance at scale, bringing together leaders from CGIAR, the African Development Bank, IITA, AfricaRice, the World Bank and other institutions.
The second focused on reimagining private-sector investment in agriculture.

Different conversations, but a common message:
Africa needs to rethink how we invest in agriculture.
We need to move beyond fragmented projects, CSR and short-term interventions and begin building commercial, technology-driven and integrated agricultural value chains that can attract private capital and create food, jobs and resilience at scale.
This is where foresight becomes an investment tool.
Foresight allows us to anticipate changes in markets, technology, climate and consumer demand, and to make investment decisions today based on the opportunities and risks of tomorrow.

This is where the vision of the “Farmer Governor,” His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, stands out.
The Foresight of the Farmer Governor
The vision is to see agriculture not simply as farming, but as a major economic and investment system.
Through Niger Food Security Systems and Logistics Limited, Niger State is bringing together land, water, farmers, mechanization, technology, logistics, finance, processing and markets within a more coordinated commercial ecosystem.
This is significant because the challenge in African agriculture is not production alone. It is also aggregation, infrastructure, off-take market access, logistics, financing and investment certainty.

Niger Foods provides a platform to address these structural challenges and create an environment where farmers, investors, technology providers, processors and off-takers can participate at scale.
The bigger question is not simply:
How much can Niger State produce today?
It is: What can Niger State’s agricultural economy become tomorrow, and what must we invest in today to make that future possible?
That is the FORESIGHT of the Farmer Governor.
And that is the investment mindset Africa needs: Do not invest only in the agriculture of today. Anticipate the agriculture of tomorrow and invest ahead of it.
