Strategic visit highlights investment opportunities, sustainable livestock production, and safe meat value chains in Niger State
Niger Foods Limited has hosted a high-level delegation from Minerva Foods, one of the world’s leading agribusiness and protein companies, on an official visit to Minna, Niger State. The visit marks a significant step in Niger Foods’ efforts to attract global partners and strengthen sustainable livestock and meat production in Nigeria.

Founded in Brazil in 1924, Minerva Foods is a major global player in fresh and processed meats, with operations across Brazil, Australia, Paraguay, Argentina, Colombia, and Uruguay, and export reach to over 100 countries. The company is widely recognised for its commitment to animal welfare, sustainability, and responsible supply chains, with diversified interests spanning beef production and processing, leather, live cattle, and value-added meat products.
During the engagement, Niger Foods presented its strategic vision for transforming Niger State into a regional hub for sustainable livestock production and agro-industrial development. Attention was given to the state’s scale, natural endowments, and policy support for private sector participation.
Geodata Analysis and Agricultural Potential
The second day of the visit focused on geodata analysis, offering detailed insights into land characteristics, grazing resources, and agricultural potential across Niger State. The presentation demonstrated the state’s capacity to support large-scale, data-driven livestock and agricultural investments aligned with global best practices.
Tagwai Breeding Programme Draws Strong Commendation
The Minerva Foods delegation expressed strong appreciation for the ongoing breeding programme at the Tagwai facility, describing it as a solid foundation for improving livestock quality, productivity, and long-term sustainability. The programme was noted as a practical example of how science-based breeding can strengthen the red meat value chain in Nigeria.

However, discussions also highlighted shared concerns around last-mile activities, particularly the need to improve cold chain logistics, distribution systems, and meat handling practices. Both parties acknowledged that addressing these gaps is critical to making safe, hygienic meat consistently accessible, while keeping stakeholders across the red meat value chain productively engaged and earning sustainable incomes.
Towards a Safer and More Inclusive Meat Value Chain
The visit reinforced a mutual commitment to exploring collaboration opportunities that promote food safety, meat hygiene, inclusive value chains, and sustainable livelihoods. For Niger Foods, the engagement with Minerva Foods underscores its growing international profile and its role in connecting Niger State’s agricultural potential with global expertise and markets.
Niger Foods remains committed to building partnerships that unlock investment, enhance food security, and position Niger State as a model for modern, sustainable agribusiness in Nigeria and beyond.
