The USAID Extension Activity Office has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Niger Foods, responding to the company’s request for support in extending their Smallholder Farmers Agribusiness Model (SFAM) in Niger State.
Representatives from Niger Foods, including the Chairman and their Technical team, were present during the signing ceremony. In this collaborative effort, Niger Foods looks to harness the USAID Extension Activity’s capabilities, utilizing the vast network of 400,000 Small Holder Farmers (SHFs) and partner Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. The objective is to leverage data effectively and engage with both private and public extension service providers.
This strategic partnership aims to provide vital support to MSMEs and farmers clustered in various communities. The MoU establishes a framework for the Extension Activity to facilitate extension support for Niger Foods, particularly in the implementation of their Market Intervention Programs (MIPs). Emphasis will be placed on crucial areas such as mechanization, improved inputs, and various extension services.
Niger Foods is making significant contributions to the partnership, providing 300 tractors for the dry season, along with 700 power tillers and the drilling of 5000 tube wells across farm locations. Furthermore, the company is demonstrating its commitment to sustainable agricultural practices by offering toll credit for mechanization services and water service credit for its irrigation initiatives. This collaboration signifies a milestone in fostering agricultural development and sustainability in Niger State.
