In a decisive move to position Niger State as the agricultural powerhouse of Nigeria, the Executive Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced the procurement of Six high-speed 6-Row Precision Vacuum Planters. This major technology acquisition marks a critical milestone in the “New Niger Agenda,” a technology-driven agribusiness revolution designed to eliminate food insecurity and modernize the state’s agricultural landscape.

Vacuum Planter

Niger State holds the largest landmass in Nigeria; a resource the current administration refuses to let sit idle while the nation faces food inflation and high import bills. By replacing outdated, manual methods with world-class machinery, the state is shifting from physical drudgery to automated efficiency.

Revolutionizing Planting Efficiency and Scale

The newly acquired precision vacuum planters utilize positive-pressure and vacuum-suction singulation rather than mechanical meters. This advanced system ensures 99% accuracy by eliminating seed skips and doubles, even when operating at high speeds of up to 15 km/h.

The operational scale of this acquisition is highly ambitious:

  • 30 Hectares per Day: The daily planting capacity achieved by each individual planter.
  • 180 Hectares per Day: The combined daily planting capacity of all six newly acquired units.
  • 10,800 Hectares Target: The total land area to be precision-planted during the upcoming 60-day seasonal window.

Declaring War on Food Imports and Waste

“We signed a sacred social contract with the people of Niger State,” Governor Bago emphasized, reflecting on his mandate as the “Farmer Governor”. “The era of the hoe and cutlass under an unforgiving sun is over. We refuse to accept the narrative that Nigeria must spend billions of dollars annually importing food, or that half of our fresh produce must spoil due to archaic logistics. We are fixing these bottlenecks at the root.”
