The First Medium Edition of the Agra – Niger Foods Rice Trade Fair and Exhibition has been described as a strategic platform for promoting exchange and networking among key stakeholders in the agricultural sector within Niger State
The Niger Foods Project Coordinator of AGRA, Mrs Rukkaya Salihu disclosed this at the Rice Trade Fair and Exhibition organized by Niger Foods Security Systems and logistics company limited in collaboration with AGRA held at the Niger Foods warehouse, Maikunkele, Minna .

Niger foods brought together key stakeholders such as farmers, processors, millers, distributors, and retailers. Serving as a marketing platform for MSMEs to increase sales, enhance local production capacity, and promote economic diversification, at no cost to the entrepreneurs.
While Showcasing locally produced rice and encouraging investment in mechanized farming and processing technology.
Mrs. Salihu noted that such engagements are vital for strengthening collaboration and driving innovation within the sector. She added that the level of interaction witnessed during the programme is critical to advancing agricultural development and ensuring long term food security, while aligning with broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and improve livelihoods. She also appreciated AGRA and other partners for their support in making the event a success.

Earlier, AGRA Niger State Project Officer, Mr. Godswill Aguiy, while at the knowledge booth of the trade fair, led a training session for student representatives from three schools provided a comprehensive overview of how Global Positioning System (GPS) and Differential GPS (DGPS) function, focusing on their crucial roles in advancing modern agricultural techniques
He explained the importance of these technologies in improving precision farming was a central theme. DGPS is essential for varied rate applications in seeding, nutrient application, and chemical spraying, allowing farmers to reduce waste.
Complementing the session, the Senior Survey Manager of Niger Foods Mr Danjuma Makeri guided the students through practical applications of the technology, demonstrating how GPS tools are used in the field for measurements, mapping, and real time data gathering, thereby giving the students hands on experience to reinforce their understanding.
Also speaking, at event, the Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Abdullahi Mammagi, applauded AGRA and Niger Foods for organizing the Rice Trade Fair and Exhibition. He described the initiative as a timely intervention that aligns with the State Government’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity, enhancing food security, and promoting value chain development across Niger state.
According to him, such platforms create meaningful opportunities for farmers, processors, and investors to connect, share knowledge, and explore new market possibilities. He further noted that the collaboration between AGRA and Niger Foods demonstrates the strength of public-private partnerships in driving sustainable agricultural development.
The Commissioner added that the trade fair not only showcases improved farming techniques and modern processing methods but also encourages local farmers to adopt best practices that can increase yield and profitability. He urged participants to take full advantage of the exhibition by engaging with experts, leveraging available resources, and building lasting partnerships.

Highlights of the event included a lively Jollof rice cooking competition among four groups, with three winners going home with prizes of 25kg, 10kg, and 5kg bags of Niger Foods processed rice. Awards were also presented to outstanding individuals in recognition of their dedication and contributions towards improving Food Security
Among the award recipients were Coordinator of Bago Ruga Ruga Mallam Hassan Shiroro ,Director of Schools and education Reforms Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed ; and Mohammed Abdallahi Gimba of Niger Foods, who was honored as Best Staff of the Year 2025
The event concluded with an energetic cultural dance performance by the Bago Ruga Ruga group, which captivated attendees, it was a show of local content, commerce and community, showcasing rice as the ultimate social matchmaker, bringing businesses and consumers together
